What Tolkien Said

“…together through the ages of the world we have fought the long defeat.”
Galadriel, of Celeborn

Together we fought the long defeat
The loss, the win, but no retreat
Embossed and scalded by the fray
That cost us all – but took the day.

.

.

Cadence Lullaby

Poplar turning, green and gold,
Green and gold, green and gold,
Poplar turning, green and gold,
End of Summer scold.

Maple turning, green and red,
Green and red, green and red,
Maple turning, green and red,
Onion broth and bread.

Oaken purple, red and brown,
Red and brown, red and brown,
Oaken purple, red and brown,
Silent in the town.

Windy breezy, blue and white,
Blue and white, blue and white,
Windy breezy, blue and white,
Breath of brave in flight.

Nod of heavy, sleepy eye,
Sleepy eye, sleepy eye,
Nod of heavy, sleepy eye,
Fearless in the night.

‘What Tolkien Said’ – a beautiful gem of a poem, and all the better for the allusion. Well done, fine writing indeed.
