‘Falun Dafa Hao’ by Courtney Dowe (with Audio)

January 15, 2017
in Human Rights in China, Poetry, Poetry Readings

“Falun Dafa Hao” is Chinese for “Falun Dafa is good.” Falun Dafa, also known as a Falun Gong, is a peaceful spiritual practice that has been persecuted in China since 1999.

The world will wonder how
We let them suffer for so long
And why the Party ever
Persecuted Falun Gong

Our children’s children will
Contort their faces and inquire:
“How could you have seen so much smoke
But failed to see the fire?”

As countless lives are taken
Who is doing all the taking?
So much is “Made in China”
Who is forced to do the making?

The voices of the future sing.
Be good. Be true. Endure.
What will they say of those
Who chose to quietly ignore?

The world will wonder how
We let them suffer for so long
And why the Party ever
Persecuted Falun Gong.

Courtney Dowe is a poet, adventurer and singer/songwriter.

Of highest importance is the fact that Courtney Dowe is a songwriter. This is precisely, therefore, how we should be approaching the shorter forms. The poem invites the music. Note that there is not a hint of awkwardness in the management of the meter. Given that the theme is persecution, the most frightful globalist phenomenon of our times, it is vital that we recognize the power which even this shorter form can bring, how it can place the meaning in high relief with seamless simplicity and elegance.
