Youths for Prophets, Without Sin

As youths for prophets steer a course,
Towards our futures of remorse,
We forge a dauntless faith believed,
Inspired by deeds not yet bereaved,
And age which slows, and grows to show,
Wisdom’s what we really sow.

Sweet forsaken pagan dreams,
Of adolescent thoughts and schemes,
To live and love exalted themes,
Amongst our regal plans supreme,
And youthful looks desire esteem,
In deeds of destiny’s extreme.

And as all vanquished knaves and foes,
Repute our gloried portent flow,
Adroit in vigoured prowessed force,
Revered in skills enriched at source,
Our inspired hallowed statures growth,
Reflects our honoured noble birth.

As damsels look to see our vigour,
Admiring of our charms, and figure,
We seek for one true heart to honour,
Mindful romanced glance upon her,
Enjoined lives’ adventured quests,
In search of worshipped passions blessed.

Elysian sires and fortunes sign,
Shows all the futures in our prime,
As valiant our faith soars high,
Towards ascending stars in sky,
And rise ‘Oh Augured Paladin‘,
We’re born celestial, without sin.

But medieval age grows old,
Quixotic musings days retold,
By phantoms who from pasts emerge,
Reminding us of thoughts they purge,
While gazing back, our futures vision,
Appears amongst our child’s ambition.

See predestined futures cast,
Towards hereafters naïve past,
As destiny in fortunes grasp,
Erstwhile ambitions faith surpassed,
The sumptuous bounty nere to last,
Are livings rewards vanished fast.

We see achievements that were born,
From all the things that we have sown,
Immortal breathe our life’s obsession,
Silhouettes our final lesson,
Eternity by fleetings show,
That where we start is where we go.

Experience begins the end,
Of understanding all we tend,
In medians that culminate,
Peripheries inaugurate,
In circled spirals that are bound,
To saviours, as our lives go round.

Before the past when life was cast

Behold! in painters hand a heart,
A brush of love to image art,
Revealing rendered skills, imparts,
Portraits which percept a craft.

Interpret then reflections awe,
As stared surprise, glares back at who?
Expressing what the likeness saw,
In picture placed opposing you.

That face anew,
You’re double drew,
Replaced the fates of both, before!
Appearance proved which life was true.

Explanations laminate,
In paints preserving acrylate,
Replicated twins conflate,
Reflections gaze beyond their fate.

To counter each the lives they’ve shaped.

And artist dwells wherein they lie,
Perceiving reasons with his eye,
To show to each, the others reach,
Of views depicted in their breach.

What chronicles predict perchance
To understand expressions glance?
At painted vigoured face, cerise,
Complexions canvassed masterpiece.

Are mirrored not by bloods deceit,
But pale ambitions incomplete.

David Hollywood co-Directed The Bahrain Writer’s Circle and founded and ‘The Colours of Life’ poetry festival in Bahrain , The Gulf, and latterly worked in Antigua, The West Indies upon a variety of poetry in performance events. He is the author of an eclectic collection of poems titled ‘Waiting Spaces’ plus co-author of ‘My Beautiful Bahrain’, ‘Poetic Bahrain’, ‘More of My Beautiful Bahrain’, ‘Lonely’ and a variety of further publications. He was the in-house poet for ‘Bahrain Confidential Magazine’ and is one of the most widely read poets in The Middle East. He is a literary critic for ‘Taj Mahal Review’ plus an essayist on the subject of poetry appreciation. There are plans for a new collection of poetry and essays to be released in 2018. David has additional responsibility for the teaching of Wine Appreciation Programmes and Themes which he developed for the hospitality industry, and currently lives in his home country of Ireland.
