The Workaholic Takes Time Off

Dear Partners:

I apologize for having
Less than normal time today.
I have a wedding lunch at noon,
But will stay free till then I pray.
I’ll also be available
At 2 if you should need to call,
Before the wedding service starts,
Though in a noisy banquet hall.

I’m sorry for my inconvenient
Schedule on this busy day.
I’ll try my best to meet your needs,
It’s my own wedding, by the way.

.

.

Compatibility

Compatibility lies less
In common ground that folks possess
Than how they learn to navigate
The stress divergence can create.

.

.

Russel Winick recently started writing poetry after ending a long legal career. He resides in Naperville, Illinois.

Thanks Roy. The first poem is based on an actual email sent to partners of a large law firm.

This lawyer wouldn’t take off the whole day for his own wedding?

        Talk about greed.

Yes, and a very warped form of self-esteem.

Isn’t that the truth about compatibility–with the Latin root words meaning “suffer together”! A strong electromagnetic field helps, too.

That last line of the wedding poem is hilarious!

And not too far from what the lawyer actually wrote. Thanks Cheryl!

Thank you Sir. I have a secondhand acquaintance with the world of big law firms. A shocking number of the partners there work practically around the clock, and here I’ve tried to capture what seems to be their priority in life.
